Festival in Glass

Last year, Delia and I had a lovely commission to make for a client's 50th birthday present. They wanted a nod to the 1950's Festival of Britain logo along with scientific references. The window was an internal one, and so any window needed to bring light from the kitchen into their hall.

I created the central Festival of Britain motif in fused glass, which was beautifully surrounded by Delia's vintage textured clear glass with a design nod to molecular structures with coloured accents using red, clear and blue jewels. Quite a statement piece!

Here is a small taster of our work this Christmas at Cockpit Arts Open Studios. Yes it's Open Studios time again at Cockpit Arts, Deptford where Glassmaids are based. Come and visit Sue in studio 202 and Delia in studio 308 along with 170 other designer makers with crafts as varied as metal work, luthiers, shoe makers, wood turners, weavers along with an extensive range of interior design products.

A Healthy kick.....

Delia and I have finally found something healthy to talk about ... Golly, from our previous posts, it just looked like we were permanently to be seen with a glass of something alcoholic in our hands.....we felt this was giving the wrong impression of Glass Maids, so we are pleased to say , we are now on a health kick...just in time for winter.

Our lush '5 a day' fruit and veg panels will see  you through the long winter with their bright colours and sparkle in the winter sunshine....lovely!

In fact a local Spanish Deli Tierra Verde, have taken a great selection to adorn their windows in their café section....see above

Norwich Cocktail Week

Ok so third post in and still we talking about cocktails! There's definitely a theme! It's Norwich Cocktail Week 3rd - 10th October and to find out about special events, discounts and participating venues please visit Gemma's website. What better way to launch our new blog, than to say ‘Cheers!’



We will both be contributing little gems of glassy wisdom, news about our work, sharing ideas about glass, and probably other notable things too…. To start our first blog, we have blended, shaken and stirred our glass cocktails, and had great fun doing it! The range will no doubt grow, but for now we have Tequila Sunrise, Pina Colada, Pink Fizz, Blue Curaco and Mohito.

As always when Delia and I create our glass designs, lots of essential research goes into our work. On this occasion, we are not telling how many cocktails were consumed in the interests of this important research….
